Guest guest
I have heard that it is possible for a baby to be allergic to BM but it is Very Very rare, and I think it is usually a very high sensitivity to lactose and they usually need a special lactose free formula. I am not sure about any of this info, its just stuff I remeber hearing. -Llanda Mommy to 4/4/2000 visit 's Web page at http://www.growthspurts.com/view.asp?s=20924 "I am in shape. Round is a shape." Guest guest
Fawn, I posted about it earlier but Galactosemia can make a baby unable to digest breastmilk but it is not a true allergy. Babies can be allergic to a component of mother's milk usually bovine protein. A girl in my mommy & me group swears that her baby had to be put on formula because she "was allergic to my milk" and I just don't understand this.....I thought bm was the 'perfect food made specifically for our babies'..... Thanks for any info helping me to straighten this out. Fawn Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!http://www.lactivist.com

Fawn The child I referred to earlier--lacking the enzyme to digest lactose--would not be allergic to milk persay--but would fail to gain weight, etc. Before we had non-milk based formula to offer in lieu of bm, this child would have starved to death at a young age.
