Sherye,

I looked through my SBD book because I was pretty sure " cool whip " was allowed

on Phase 1. I couldn't find it in the food list, but it was on some of the menu

pages:

" Sugar free flavored gelatin dessert with a tablespoon of fat-free frozen

whipped topping or whipping cream with sugar substitute. " So yes it is

allowed!:D

As far as worrying about your kids getting enough carbs, if you can get them to

eat the brown rice and whole wheat versions of pasta and breads, it won't hurt

them. It is healthier for them and it won't cause them to loose weight if they

eat enough. Let them have the regular stuff once in a while if they want it,

pizza or whatever, but you shouldn't have to wear yourself out cooking separate

dinners for everyone. I know my kids are picky eaters, and I had a hard time

getting them to eat the healthier carbs, but if they wanted something different

they had to make it themselves and clean up after themselves when they were

done. My kids are older, so that was okay for them to do.

If yours are younger, make your dinner, let them choose what they want to eat

from it and eventually they will try the new things. Give them a bowl of cereal,

mac and cheese, or a PBJ sandwich (something simple) if they absolutely won't

eat a dinner you make. They won't starve, and you won't have to knock yourself

out. My kids, (the pickiest eaters in the world!) actually realized brown rice

was pretty good! haha

They like the meat, chicken, or what ever I usually serve for dinner and I

usually make a veggie everyone likes, (if not, I ask them to at least try it)

and if you give them whole grain bread and fruit on the side it's a healthy

balanced meal.;;)

Is your husband diabetic? My mother has type 2 diabetes, and she went on South

Beach with me last year. She didn't loose as quickly as I did during phase one,

but she ended up loosing enough weight after a few months to lower her blood

sugar and keep it level enough to have her medication reduced. After a while she

was taken off of it completely! She found that she could control it with her

diet and was thrilled at the results! It takes some time, but it will be well

worth your efforts in the end!

My sister also went on the Beach after she saw our results. Her doctor also told

her that she had high cholesterol and needed to do something about it. The

doctor was amazed, on her next visit, at how fast she brought it down, with this

plan. It does work. Don't give up!
