Guest guest
Zoe, I agree I don't think I can eat that stuff without having carbs and carb withdrawl later. I am making everything normal for dinner and then adding the mashed cauliflower for me. That way I will have some potatoes too!! also the dessert will be the Pumpkin cheese cake that Sue posted a week or so ago. Everyone should like that and if they don't tough there is plenty of everything else to eat!! It is just my family, Hubby and 4 kids. Guest guest
Maybe you can try eating salad first - then 1/3 carbs, 1/3 meat and 1/3 veggies - theoretically that will make the insulin less of a spike and more normal. I have no idea if it works - I haven't tried it because I'm such a carb addict I just can't imagine eating those carbs without cravings later - but if you're going to eat the thanksgiving dinner anyway, it might be worth a try. Guest guest
Guess I'm lucky in that we are going to someone else's house - I'm thinking I may bring some low-carb dessert and/or cranberry stuff for me - all my kids will be there too, ages 20, 21 and 26! I miss the leftovers so DH and I will probably cook our own turkey the next day so we can have lots of leftovers and maybe I'll also make the cauli-tater stuff etc. Zoe >From: Shadcat708@... > >Zoe, > >I agree I don't think I can eat that stuff without having carbs and carb >withdrawl later. Guest guest
We always get together with my mom's family. There are 5 kids in her family, 11 grandchildren, 20? great grand kids and 4 great-great grand children (including older stepchildren who are great grand kids). So there is a huge house full of people! LOL We do turkey, ham, stuffing, potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, rolls and a few salads. Who ever is hosting does the turkey and my grandmother buys a ham. The rest is usually potluck (well assigned potluck. LOL). Dinner is buffet style and we all eat until you are going to burst. then wait a couple of hours before bringing out the pies. :-) Everyone is great about keeping everything peanut free. Sometimes there will be something with another nut (the stuffing had pine nuts one year) but Drew is good about skipping stuff if we need him to. ----- Original Message ----- Hey all! Guest guest
That sounds almost exactly like my family. We switch years- every other year we do Thanksgiving with my family and Christmas with his and then the next year switch. I'm usually the pie and rolls and jello salad bringer! Guest guest
Oh Jell-O salad, you aren't from Utah are you ;-) heeheehee So what do you put in that Jell-O salad? My mom does cranberry Jell-O with ground up cranberries that float on top. It is great if you don't eat the raw cranberries (so you eat the Jell-O. LOL) I used to get rolls then I got green bean casserole one year. No clue how I do it differently than the rest of the family but that is my permanent assignment and last year I brought the crockpot FULL and came home with NONE. Instead of being pleased that they are liked I'm annoyed since I like them reheated the next day ;-) ----- Original Message ----- That sounds almost exactly like my family. Guest guest
Heidi I make a raspberry pretzel one, a blueberry cream cheese one, cherry ones, whatever I'm in the mood for! Guest guest
Okay, got a challenge here. DH and I are driving up to DD's on Wed. and leaving on Fri, because she's a grad student and finals are 3 weeks after Thanksgiving break is over. Therefore, cooking time is limited, since I will probably take her to buy groceries AFTER we get there. In additon, she and I are on P2, and she is also a vegetarian. DH is neither one. I'm looking for an acceptable dressing and gravy recipe. I figure I can get a small turkey breast for DH and me, and we can all do green beans, deviled eggs, cranberry-orange relish, and baked sweet potatoes, but the traditional dressing for us is cornbread dressing, and that's not SBD friendly. I can substitute whole grain bread for the second bread in the recipe, but what are my options for the cornbread? And if I only do a turkey breast, I don't have the fixin's for gravy, and the packaged mixes (besides being not that tasty) are probably not SBD compatible. Any Southerners with ideas? (Others are welcome, too; it's just I've found cornbread dressing to be almost exclusively a Southern dish.) in NC
