At this age, I wouldn't worry too much about his weight gain because of

lack of exercise, especially if he normally gets plenty. When he hits

his next growth spurt he will elongate and his body size will catch up

to his weight.

If he continues to gain weight after his growth spurt, then that's when

I would start thinking of his diet.

Debbie,

When I took my 9 year old daughter to the doctor she had gained 30 lbs in

about a 7 month time span. The doctor was very concerned about this weight gain

and talked to me about it in private. and I started SBD together. I

told her she only had to " diet " with me for 2 weeks then we would eat healthy

together. She lost 3 lbs she was very proud of herself. Since then we have

made life style changes by not having all the junk food in the house and

changing to whole grain products. She hasn't lost anymore weight but I have

noticed a change in her body contours and her clothes are looser. But I don't

harp

on diet instead we talk about making healthier choices and when she eats. I

had noticed she was eating when she was bored so we talked about eating just to

eat. Now when she asks for a snack I'll ask her if it is a good choice (even

if what she asks for is a good snack choice) because I want her to think

through what she is doing instead of just stuffing her mouth. I'm hoping we are

making some inroads to health adult diet choices. I hope this helps.
