GREETINGS -- You will find that the management of your diabetes will require a coordinated effort on three fronts -- your diet, your exercise regimen, and your medicine strategy. In the case of your diet you are likely to find that the more carbohydrates you consume (especially simple carbohydrates vs. complex carbohydrates) the more difficult it will be to control your blood sugars. Over time I dropped the carbs in my diet from 60% of the calories I consumed to 15% with excellant results. In the case of med strategy it will take a while for your body to adapt to any new medicine while a residual builds up and stabilizes. Your meds might need to be increased in steps until yoiur blood sugars lower to an acceptable level. I found that patience and persistance are needed day by day to best deal with my diabetes and other ailments. wambo1941
Guest guest
Hi and welcome. I see that you love to cook and if you love to cook you should also love to eat. You weight could be giving you problems, are you over weight? Getting those carbs lowered will be a big help. This site has a lot of recipes. I found them in the file section. How often do you test? I am sure you will learn from this site as I have! What is your comfort food now? Candi > Hello, > > I am joining the group to learn everything I can. Guest guest
Connie, I had both of my sons on gf/cf for 2 years. My youngest had never had casein and I slowly introduced it with SCD when he was 2 and he does fine with it. I do think it causes some nasal drainage and increased hyperactivity in both my children, but some days they get a lot of it with yogurt shakes and cheese. I will tell you that my older son had been on casein, then off for 2 years, and then back on it and he has grown in height the best on casein, as oppossed to soy or other forms of calcium. My younger son grew and gained weight tremendously after starting this diet. I hope this helps. My son is 5 yrs old and diagnosed as ASD at 18 months. He has been on the gfcf diet close to 3 yrs now. We did see improvement, but I know this SCD diet can do so much more for him. Since birth he has had problems with milk( we were frequently changing formulas because of constipation and excessive gas) After reading the BTVC book I would like to include the dairy in the diet. My question is: How successful has it been for a child on a gfcf diet to have dairy introduced with this diet? I would appreciate any feedback from other parents who have included the dairy in the diet for a child who has been on a gfcf diet in the past. Guest guest
---Hello. My son is 16 months old and was diagnosed PDD at 14 months. I had him on the gf/cf diet for 3 months. He did not do well on it at all, he had chronic diarreha, became alarmingly thin and looked like he was becoming very, very sick and weak. I had taken him off the Similac formula both regular and soy and had him on rice milk and almond milk. I then found out about the SCD diet in mid september and he has improved SO MUCH I can't even believe it. The only casein he gets is in the homemade goat's milk yogurt and several times a week I add some liquid calcium. No cheeses or any other dairy and no wheat/gluten. He's gained weight, grew in height, is happier in general and has normal looking stools. I had extreme difficulty finding a doctor familiar with SCD so I have been doing it on my own. The BTVC book and the internet are all I use. I have an appt with a nutrionist so I'll see how it goes. Good luck to you and please let us know how your child does. mom to Broderick In pecanbread , Suzanne Wolcoff wrote: > > Connie, > I had both of my sons on gf/cf for 2 years. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, My name is Dennis and I joined the group today. So I wanted to drop a note and say hi. Last weekend was a life changer for me, on Saturday night I had a heart attack. Just before I was leased from hospital, I was given information on the new stint that was placed in my heart, suggestions of a follow up appointment with a local cardiologist; then the doctor said I should get friendly with the South Beach Diet. I would welcome all comments on how the diet has worked for you and suggestions from other who are in or have been in recovery from a heart attack. Peace and Joy, Dennis
