Guest guest
Hi Alice Ann, I do have questions. One do you use splenda or artificial sweeteners.? Did they have any effect on your weight loss? I have been on Atkins for about 3 weeks now with only 3 pounds lost in the first few days. I am getting frustrated. I tried dropping all veggies. No loss , I became depressed and irritable. So I added yesterday 2 1/2 cup servings of veggies and not so much cheese. I also had a serving of cheesecake made with splenda whip cream and cream with knox gelatin and koolaid for flavoring. I drank lots of water. Got up all thru the night , I just knew my scale would be budged.....but no loss. I have been here now too long. What do you think?... I should add, I started on a low calorie diet Aug 25 then switched to somersizing losing from 201 to 173....then atkins going from 173 to 169 and yo yoing that loss for 3 weeks.....Jean The average loss looks good per month but I lost 20 pounds in the first 3 weeks.... Guest guest
You can buy splenda at www.splenda.com go into the diabetic section and you can order from there. As for the carbs....I have eaten them in the form of cheese and cream...not veggies. Do you think that's it. Yesterday I started adding coleslaw and I had some okra. No, I won't give up. If I maintain this weight it is better than 201. I just don't want to be where I can' t eat anything or gain gain gain again. So, we'll see......Jean
Guest guest
Hi Camilla Jean I found that I didn't lose as much weight if I didn't eat enough of the allowed carbs. Also I seemed to lose like a kick start if I had tuna salad on letuce. It could have just been me but try it. Women do have a harder time with weight loss, we were created to keep the fat to use to feed babies, Men were made to use it in the fields, they lose easily. I found that too much fat just gave false ketone levels so use the fat in moderation. Let me know if I can help more. AlyceAnn PS DON'T GIVE UP, IT WORKS!! AND ITS GOOD FOR YOU!!! __________________________________________ NetZero - Defenders of the Free World Get your FREE Internet Access and Email at http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html

Guest guest
I use stevia, as I have heard so much (wrong) about Fake sweeteners, it taste like nutrasweet but I am getting used to how much to use and I guess I am getting used to it, the health food store was the only place that I ever see it, they sell it in liquid and packets and a bottle, I have the packets so I can keep some in my pocketbook when I go out and I get unsweet tea, i have had people ask where I get them... anyway good luck, Love Heidi Re: Introduction > From: CoalCall@... > > what about stevia...where can that be bought? > > > Big and Beutiful is a state of mind, Never let anyone tell you different. >

Guest guest
I got so caught up in my intro that I forgot the most important part. I'm a 32 year old SAHM of two wonderful children, a 7 year old girl and a soon-to-be 5 year old boy. Oh yeah, better mention the hubby, he's pretty wonderful too (most of the time). LOL And last but not least, we live in Northwest Indiana. Any other Hoosiers on this list? One more thing, my stats are 263/211*/150. I put the star by the 211 because I have been down to 211 once, so I am claiming that as my weight. But like I mentioned in my introduction, I have been bouncing a lot since August. Anywhere from 211 to 218. I will shut up now. @)--`-,--Toni- ---,-`--(@ " Corn is for cattle and potatoes are for pigs. " Introduction Hello, I'm new to this list but I am a long time member of other low carb lists. I guess I thought I needed more email. ;0) Looks like I came to the right place! I just finished reading my 400 or so posts that I downloaded since yesterday. Wow!! You are a chatty bunch. I have been on Atkins since September 24th of last year ('98). In that time I have lost 52 pounds!! I am very happy with my weight loss but am getting a little frustrated with current stalls and/or bouncing scale syndrome. I have a lot more to lose and just wish that I could get moving again. Maybe someone on this list will have a tip that I haven't yet tried to get some more of my pounds to leave. I am getting desperate to try anything at this point. Temptations are easier to resist when the weight is coming off at a nice steady pace. Since it has been almost two months since I have actually seen a new low weight, I am beginning to enter that danger zone of thinking, " Well, since I haven't been losing anyway, one _________ won't hurt. " You fill in the blank with whatever temptation is hardest for you to resist and I think you will get my point. Anyway, I am hoping to make some new cyber friends here and continue friendships with others who I " know " already from other lists. Guest guest
I found this stuff today.....jean The list below will help you to identify your own personal diet saboteurs. If there are some that you really hate to give up, start with those that are easier. If this takes care of the problem then you're home free. If not, then begin eliminating the others one by one. When you're satisfied with your progress you can stop eliminating things or keep going to stay on track with a healthier lifestyle. The bold items are things that are a good idea to eliminate regardless of whether or not you can " get away with it " . NOTE: Because this website is not intended to provide a comprehensive education I will not always explain why a certain rule, technique or suggestion is given. For more information go to the book page where you'll find many books that will give you the information you need, as well as some great recipe books (many of which are difficult to find in a bookstore). 1.. Some medications especially heavy duty tranquilizers, diet pills, long term anti-depressants, diuretics , birth control, estrogen, and antibiotics can interfere with your metabolism, thus halting or slowing weight loss. Check with your doctor to see if any medication(s) you're taking could be the problem and if there is something else you could take. If you've been on the UnDiet for two or more weeks you might want to ask your doctor to retest you to see if you still need the medication(s) or if you need the same dosage. 2.. A thyroid condition can slow or stop weight loss. A simple at home test for a thyroid condition is to take your temperature under your arm within ten minutes of waking up in the morning. An underarm temperature below 97.8 suggests hypothyroidism or hypometabolism. Of course whether you test negative or positive, make sure you check with your doctor. 3.. Eliminate or at least cut back on potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and other starches until you begin to lose again or until you reach your goal weight. 4.. If you're on the Protein Blast make sure that you're counting your carbohydrates correctly. Read labels, write down everything you eat in a day, for several days and have a friend check your list for hidden carbohydrates. 5.. Check your diet for hidden sugars and ruthlessly eliminate them! 6.. Check labels for sugars, corn syrup solids and high fructose corn syrup and even more ruthlessly eliminate them! 7.. Caffeinated drinks lower your metabolism, switch to decaf. 8.. Diet sodas, diet gelatins, powdered diet drinks and many other prepackaged diet and " sugar free " foods contain aspartame or sucrose which slows or halts weight loss in many people. Substitute non-alcoholic beer which is a Starch, Arrowhead fruit-flavored mineral waters (other mineral waters contain sweeteners & Starches) work with all meal plans, or distilled water with a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice. 9.. Don't use more than 6 tablespoons of heavy cream in your coffee in a day. This isn't a hard and fast rule, but if you're having trouble losing weight this could be the culprit. 10.. If you're not exercising at all, or exercising very little, you may need to add some physical activity to your routine to continue losing weight. To raise your metabolism so that you're burning calories all day long you need to exercise 20-30 minutes at an intensity that has you sweating within 7-12 minutes into your workout. 11.. You shouldn't be consuming more than one 12 ounce beer and one to two 4 ounce glasses of dry wine a day. Even then, if you're trying to lose, consuming alcohol on a daily basis can be a saboteur. 12.. Switch UnDiet plans. The best choice is to switch to Produce Power for one to two weeks or make it a regular part of your lifestyle by eating Produce Power one or two days a week. However if you're using Produce Power you can switch to Protein Blast. If you're on the Protein Blast and have hit a plateau it often helps to switch to eating Fruit in the morning and Veggies and Starches the rest of the day, in other words eliminating Proteins for 3-5 days. When you start losing again go back to your plan of choice. 13.. Chewing gum contains either sugar or aspartame. Eliminate it when your trying to lose. 14.. You may be metabolically resistant. This can occur especially if you are severely overweight and/or have yo-yo dieted in the past. The Fat Blast can be the ticket into kicking you into a downward spiral on your scale. The Fat Blast gives you even faster results than total fasting. Isn't that incredible - you can eat and lose weight faster than when you're not eating. Note: Do not stay on the Fat Blast for more than five days. If your question was not answered by the above then feel free to e-mail your question. Guest guest
Hi Larry, Thanks for introducing yourself, and welcome to the group. I have CMT type 2 with no atrophy and I have low arches. LOL You sound much more like a CMTer than I do. I've always been different!! Have you visted the SCA chat room? I haven't, but I know that chat rooms can be very helpful and supportive. We also have a couple of SCA folks who sometimes join us in the CMT chat room at MGH. I have the URLs if anyone is interested. Guest guest
Hi! Kat! It's taking a little time to learn my way around in here. I sent my intro a little prematurely. When i was diagnosed no genes had been mapped yet and the only symtoms that had manifested were signs that appeared to be ataxia. I take no meds and mine has affected mostly my feet and leg's.Mine was considered to be a mild case. But over the years walking has become difficult. I also use the MGH forum and talked to SCAers and the few CMTer's that go there. I can relate to SCAer's but theCMTer's hit home. I seem to be the only one in my family affected by this disease.
