Guest guest
Shar: I just read a post from the BSE list (I think) a few hours ago regarding tonsil tests for people who have had their tonsils removed. Yes, it is still possible to test for CJD without the tonsils. I thought I kept the post, but I must have deleted it. Apparently, there is enough tissue in the area where the tonsils were removed to perform the test. Beverly G.
Guest guest
Also, what about all of the people who've had their tonsils taken out. My Dad's were burned out with radiation when he was young. And I had mine out when I was 7 or 8. Guess we're up a creek as far as this diagnostic tool! Guest guest
<> Shar: That is a very interesting thought. I would also assume that radiation would damage the tissue around the tonsils. I had radiation on my thyroid a few years ago and my endocrinologist told me it would shrink it and would be completely inactive. I wonder how common it is to destroy the tonsils with radiation - it is a fairly common way to destroy the thyroid. Beverly G.

Guest guest
Beverly G. I doubt that it would have been possible with my Dad. That radiation treatment really took a lot out. It is amazing to me that it did not affect his voice much. Oh well, it's something I won't have to worry about. Guest guest
Beverly - I believe that radiation was only used for a few years for this process and it was probably in the late twenties or early thirties when my Dad was a child. I think I may try to do a little research on this. I could accidentally trip over something, right? Happy Sunday and GO JETS!
