Guest guest
Hi all, I just started Atkins a week ago. I have about 10 pounds I want to lose. I've been doing a low-fat diet/daily exercise for years, and can't seem to lose the last couple of pounds. I've been training for a marathon for months now (it's in 2 weeks) but despite 20 mile runs I haven't lost an ounce. I think my body is used to where it is. I have a question about ketosis. I was vigilant about keeping under 20 grams for the first 3 days, tested myself, and no ketosis. I had a long run after 3 days (14 miles, it felt lousy, I must admit, since I couldn't eat bananas or drink gatorade). I figured that any glucose I had left would be used up by this, since the body only stores several thousand calories worth of quick energy. The next morning I checked, and no ketosis. That day I kept my carbs under 10 grams, and again, nothing. Anyone else experience that? I'm just worried that without going into ketosis I will gain weight on this plan, since i'm eating a lot more fat than I'm used to eating. Also, are there any long-distance runners out there? How are you running? I'm going to introduce some carbs 4 days or so before the marathon, and then get back to Atkins when I'm finished. I'm so sick of running I think I'm going to take a long hiatus from it and take up something else as soon as the marathon's over. Thanks to everyone. It's good to be on this list.
