Guest guest
a, I spoke to a reporter for the National Enquirer Saturday about the article. This reporter knew my wife. He said he would try to get their medical reporter to contact me. Lets hope this happens. Guest guest
a if you hear from him again, make sure he also understands that CJD is not only spread through blood products. I know for a fact that my dad never received blood transfusions nor did many other CJD patients. I wish the Enquirer would have at least said that " there are thought to be many ways to contract CJD, one possible way is through blood products. " We don't want people thinking that if they haven't received blood products, they are " safe " . Maybe Mel can get them to tell the entire story!! Beverly G. Guest guest
Not only is CJD not " only " spread through blood products. There have been no documented cases of its being spread this way. << From: BevAlso@... a if you hear from him again, make sure he also understands that CJD is not only spread through blood products. Makes me wonder if they know something we don't...I can't remember the name of the " expert " they quoted, but it sounded as though this was a direct quote from the person (I think he was with WHO). Guest guest
< > Good for you! Hopefully, you set them straight and maybe it will pique their interest enough to do another story; however, there is always the chance that they will mess up again. When Mel Massey (DrJolyn37) was quoted in the Dallas Times Herald newspaper last summer, he was misquoted which caused (or rather I should say forced) the Texas Health Dept. to make a public statement about the number of CJD cases in Texas. The story was then picked up by the Houston Chronicle. This probably helped us in the long run to make CJD reportable in Texas. So, I guess even bad news or wrong news can get positive attention. Guest guest
Bev in both my letters to them and the third one I sent definite ways of transmission not just the theoretical way. a G. ---------- > From: BevAlso@... > To: cjdvoice (AT) onelist (DOT) com > Subject: Re: Fw: your letter to Enquirer > Date: Wednesday, October 21, 1998 7:20 AM > > From: BevAlso@... > > a if you hear from him again, make sure he also understands that CJD is > not only spread through blood products. Guest guest
FYI; The man they got the info from was Dr. Heymann of WHO, I can't believe that this was given to them for info, or they wanted it to be " sensationalized " by saying " thought to be spread by a virus-like agent through infected blood products and possibly through infected beef. It is a rare, fatal disorder... " making it a mystery disease. This was why I felt it was improper journalism and wanted a proper article printed. a G. ---------- > From: BevAlso@... > To: cjdvoice (AT) onelist (DOT) com > Subject: Re: Fw: your letter to Enquirer > Date: Wednesday, October 21, 1998 7:45 AM > > From: BevAlso@... > > From: DebbieOney@... > > < no > documented cases of its being spread this way.>> > > Yes, Debbie, I thought the same thing when I read the article.
