Hi Dawn,

I just came across mention of Hereditary eosinophilia. It is just a blurb in a

medical Journal article I have but wondered if BJ might fall into this. I know

he has EG, but wondered if something like this could go hand in hand and account

for his higher Eosin levels? I also read that Asthma can cause higher levels.

" Subjects with hereditary eosinophilia, who are reported to have eosinophilia

through out life, are apparently healthy - but their total Eosinophil count

never rises above 300/mm. " This was in an article in Hospital Practice, 1971,

written by Dorthea Zucker-lin. At that time she was an associate

professor of medicine, New York University School of Medicine.

Hi, we saw our new doctor today. She believes that the blood eosinophil

count does correlate with the flare ups of EG. I guess we will see. BJ's EOS

count was 6% on the Neocate only, today back on regular food it is 8%. His

stools have increased some and have started with the undigested food. She plans

on having his blood drawn every Monday to see how his counts go. These are the

lowest counts he has ever had. His first count, at just a few months age, was

10% and it has been higher than that ever since. She did say that she would

like us to at least get BJ to drink 1-2 of the Neocate a day for vitamins and

such. His sodium is close to being dangerously low, no one has ever mentioned

this. She said diarrhea can cause this. We go see a dietician at the end of

the week.

  • 3 months later...

Well we talked to the ped (who is kinda dense) and she said that sending us to

BAMC or WR would be what she wants to do but she said that it doesn't solve any

long term issues for BJ. She said that BJ needs to be followed on a monthly

basis by a GI and there is no way we could go to BAMC or WR once a month. She

said we should either consider going back to our old GI doctor who despite his

one stupid mistake, always took BJ's general quality of life into effect or we

should consider applying for a compassionate reassignment (which she would back

up) to be closer to BAMC or WR. We tried the compassionate reassignment once

and weren't successful and now I would say our chances are even slimmer

considering dh is on assignment for Korea in June. She said I could move there

before he left and stay there by myself and then he could request to come to the

base after Korea (which they would probably grant) but I can't imagine being ALL

alone in a strange state with no one and 3 kids so now I don't know what we are

going to do but I think we will probably go to one of the places soon

considering BJ's weight and very poor eating.
