Guest guest
Dear Vicki, Did your friends mention that G.D.Searle was the medical subsidiary of Monsanto, fully owned by that TN Corporation? I'm just interested to know how much TNC chemists think about the politics of their employers? Cheers etc., Lynette, ____________________________ At 08:40 AM 2/12/99 -0500, you wrote: >From: SOUKUPS@... > >I mentioned the aspartame discussion here to some friends last evening. Guest guest
Lynnette, At the time (early 1979) I don't think Searle was owned by anyone. At that time, I owned Searle stock (it was on the New York Stock Exchange) in anticipation of the price rise when aspartame was released to the public. It was sold at a later date--maybe 82 or 83. Excuse my ignorance, but was do you mean by " TN Corporation " ? I can imagine, but the initials I come up with don't fit! Vicki
Guest guest
Aspartame was not approved until 1981, in dry foods. For over eight years the FDA refused to approve it because of seizures and brain tumors this drug produced in lab animals. 'The FDA continued to refuse to approve it until President Regan took office ( a friend of Searle) and fired the FDA Commissioner who would not approve it. Dr. Arthur Hull was appointed as commissioner. Even then there was so much opposition to approval that the Board of Inquiry was set up. The Board said " Do not approve aspartame. " Dr. OVERRULED his own Board of Inquiry. Shortly after Commissioner Arthur Hull Jr. approved the use of aspartame in carbonated beverages, he left the position with G.D Searle's Public Relations firm. Aspartame is an " approved sweetner " because of a few greedy and dishonest people who place profits above human life. This is a TOXIC DRUG ,and shoud be removed fom human food . Link to printable report form: http//www.dorway.com/reprtfrm.html I have other links for additional information if anyone is intrested. Guest guest
Hi Vicki, As I understand it, Monsanto's takeover of GD Searle was in the early 1980s, in the period that the FDA approved aspartame. TN refers to Trans National, probably a more recent term than MNC referring to Multi-National Corporation. [tho' I have amused myself trying to guess what you might have been thinking TN stood for!!!]. With best wishes etc., Lynette.
