Anita Manning of USA Today interviewed Tracie McEwen by telephone last night and

called me with some questions this morning. Her article will be published

Monday or Tuesday.. Will not find out when CNN is publishing the TV series

until Saturday pm. It may start Sunday. Will advise on CJD Voice as to what

schedule I am given. Was reasssued that the SLC Deseret News will still publish

their article Sunday morn. I think that one is going to be good.

Terry, why did the SLC man get so much publicity? I believe four things

contributed, 1) his age, 2) a plasma donor with Bayer in a cold sweat and the

drug knew it since the products were already in many foreign countries, 3) a

potential recall or quarantine on some blood products, and 4) we noted deer and

CWD hereon TV the night of 11/25, the same day his diagnosis was obtained and he

was a consumer of deer and elk. This resulted in three more TV news items the

following Sat, Sun, and Tue on two different stations. Those four things

affected a lot of people. Another state has called and asked us not to

exagerate the stories on the deer, so the effect was noted and they are already

trying to control damage. The local wildlife people said they received a bunch

of calls about the safety of eating the deer and elk after these shows. The

deer and elk hunts are a lot of local and tourist dollars to the states and many
