Guest guest
Gloria, Thanks and tell them to feel free to make other people aware of it. If any want detailed information on CJD I'd be happy to provide it. Debbie << From: GlowUSA@... I am printing this and will bring it to a Rabbi of a temple not far from me and will (now that I'm writing and thinking) will bring this to the Jewish Home for the Aged klhere in Reseda... I haven't ever eaten " tongue " due to the name as a child and haven't eaten meat for years and years, but I do believe it is called tongue but is not the tongue of an animal but a piece of meat like a roast. I kwill find out though. Gloria >>
Guest guest
I stand corrected! Tongue is tongue. Yuk! The Rabbi will call me as he's off today. I left it with the secratary and talked and talked. Then I went to a senior day treatment center and gave the paper to one of the directers and talked and talked! Monday I will go to the home for the aged. Gloria

It was actually a favorite of mine until I went to her house one day when she was preparing it and saw how it looked before she cut it up. It really was the great big tongue of a cow - awful! After seeing that I never ate it again. But take my word for it, it really is the cow's tongue. Unfortunately, this doesn't provide a clue to my mother-in-law's CJD. We don't know if she ever ate this or not. Yvette
Guest guest
The tongue being mentioned just hit a nerve in me. My mom used to prepare it on a regular basis. It was very easy to make, boil it in water and its done. She was the worst cook in the county. We all still joke about it to this day. Needless to say when our maid was off we all ate tongue. I actually loved it. Sorry guys and gals but put mustard on the rye bread with the tongue and it was great. Since I have been off all meats for 5 years I now pass on that meal. God how the hell could I ever have eaten that let alone a steak. Carol
Guest guest
Vicki, I know it is not 100% but I guess it's the best we have now short of a biopsy which is also not 100% accurate either since you may not biopsy the affected area. I can understand your father-in-law's hesitation after all they've been through. Debbie << Debbie, My mother in law had the 14-3-3 Assay done by Dr. Gibbs. He told us that the 14-3-3 test was not absolute, but would help point to the diagnosis if the clinical diagnosis fit. My mother in laws assay was negative for the markers, but he says that they don't know at what point in the disease the markers appear. He wants to do another spinal tap in 4 weeks, but it was such an ordeal (general anesthesia etc) that I doubt my father in law will allow it. We'll have wait for autopsy. Her neurologist still believes she has CJD and Dr. Gibbs agrees. Vicki >>
