Guest guest
Shana, I have delayed reactions, some a few hours, some a few days. Most often I will eat something " bad " early in the day, maybe bit a bit tingly before bed and wake up in the morning all puffed up with throat closing and difficulty breathing. Sometimes rashes take a few hours, and migraines can take a few hours, but nothing like Miriam has, sorry! Both allergists I have been to definately believe in delayed reactions. It can take anywhere from 3-4 days to 1-2 weeks. Interestingly enough once he starts to get bothered by something, he " resets himself " by restricting himself to bananas and sweet potatoes, his 2 known good foods. It seems his body knows and tells him what he needs to do. But of course the damage is already done, and it takes him a while to get over the distress the bad food(s) have caused. > every doctor including Dr. Sampson says its impossible for someone to > have a delayed reaction. The behavioral/developmental nutritionist I saw about Caton absolutely believes in delayed reactions, FWIW.
Guest guest
Shana, My son doesn't react for up to three weeks sometimes. As a very small infant it would take two to three weeks until the reaction got to the point of vomiting and diaherra, before we realized he was having a problem. Between Christmas and New Years I was thinking he could tolerate turkey until about three weeks into giving him it mixed with sweet potatoes he started vomiting. That time he couldn't even keep down the Neocate and we had to take him back to Pedilyte. This can be very frustrating because you have to wait a month in between trying new things. I have also found that something he has gotten small amounts of did not cause a problem until I thought he was clear and we gave him as much as he wanted. Then we have the other end of the spectrum where it seems as soons as the food touches his esphogus it gets immediately rejected. I have also heard that it is possible to develop an allergy to a food you are consistently eating. I am praying this doesn't happen with . If we lose potatoes I am going a have a seriously upset 1 year old on my hands. Good luck!!! Meaning that you don't react right away only after a build up in your system . Many of Miriam reactions are delayed and every doctor including Dr. Sampson says its impossible for someone to have a delayed reaction. That is the problem with Miriam that noone can figure out what is flying with her she might be ok for a week and then she will start up with the diarrhea and stomach aches.. Sometimes rashes or even breathing problems. has anyone ever heard of this. Hope to hear from someone. Guest guest
The IgG blood test that was mentioned in some letters, tests for just that--delayed reactions. Do you try one food at a time for a week or so, then remove it before trying another one to figure out which food Miriam is reacting to. Could it be a combination of foods??? Could it be anything she comes in contact with at school, food wise. AJ has her own table that one of the teachers sits at with her. They have there own little picnic/playtime everyday at lunch. I know we would never have figured out AJ's delayed reactions without the IgG testing!!!!! Phyllis
