Guest guest
Hi my name is Cathy Atkins, my son will be 12 yrs. old on July 1st. He was dx'ed with reflux disease about a year ago. He also has many other med. problems. His GI feels his reflux is caused by allergies, though I really don't agree. I have joined this list hoping for information and support. had an endoscope in Sept. that showed esophagitis, but the GI said no eosinophils. He then had a ph probe which the GI said didn't show much reflux. He had a repeat endo two weeks ago, this time, the GI said the esophagas looked inflamed along the entire esophagas, and the biopsy showed esophagitis. The GI said he still thinks it is allergy related, but didn't say that the latest biopsy showed eosinophils, so I assume it didn't since that was what he was cheeking for. He said he may try steroids then cromolin, already takes meds 8 times a day for his reflux and migraines. If we add the allergy meds, that will make 12-14 times a day taking meds. How do we know for sure that his reflux is caused by allergies? If it isn't showing up on the biopsies, wouldn't that mean no allergies? I feel that since his symptoms are getting worse. He basically has silent reflux, but he dose have more symptoms than he has in the past. He currently takes prilosec 20mg 2 times a day and reglan 3.5 cc's 4x's a day. His prilosec was changed to zantac but his symptoms started getting worse so it was back to prilosec. He has been on meds since July 1st, 98. He also had a barium swallow which we saw reflux and a gastric emptying which was fine. If he has food allergies should he be on a formula as I see alot of the kids are? he never gets stomach aches, most of his symptoms are chest pain, burning in throat, and liquid refluing up. Well, thanks for reading my long intro. Any insight wiuld be apreciated. Cathy, mom to
