Guest guest
No, we just avoid chicken and chicken products, hot dogs, bologna and dairy. Dawn-KS, mommy to Dakota, 7 and aka BJ, 3 (eosinophilic gastroenteritis, Nissen, asthma, reflux), and mommy to Mackenzie Marie (due December 24) [eosinophilic gastroenteritis] BJ's results Well, as I thought BJ's results were horrible. No real irritation or inflammation this time but eosinophils everywhere in his duodenum. Our GI doctor's answer, back to the Prednisone. I don't want to do this, I am so confused and don't know where to turn. FOr a certain amount of time the child only gets fed the elemental diet to see if it clears up the EG. If so then foods are slowly introduced to see if the symptoms reappear. Your GI should call Dr. in Philadelphia if he is unable to properly deal with BJ's problems. I am sure that he would offer assistance over the phone. Guest guest
One reason * our GI doctor *. From what I understand in order to start this elemental diet, we must go to an elemental formula such as Neocate or one of the others. Is that right? He doesn't want to do this, only the Prednisone and has put him on 16 ampules a day of Gastrocrom. I don't think Gastrocrom does anything. Someone, please, explain the whole elemental diet thing to me? Guest guest
Gastrocrom won't do a dang thing in my opinion........!!!! Get that number from Sharon. Guest guest
Would you have Dr. 's number? Excuse my language but I am going to turn into a royal you know what tomorrow. I don't want to do the steroids and I don't think the Gastrocrom is going to do anything. His health was deteriorating prior to trying it. Though he still has problems, they are not nearly as bad as they were prior to this. Also, we did the elimination diet while he was on Neocate. This really helped to highlight some of the foods that triggered his problems. I agree that you need to talk to another doc. Guest guest
Dawn, I dont want to get you upset but I would really ask why this doc doesnt want to try an elementa diet. It is standard of care for eos gastropathies. The elemental diet has all the food protein broken down past the point where the eos can attach. Perhaps your doc feels the disease is not triggered by food; he would be in the minority on this however. Obviously, our disease is completely controlled by not eating. I've never heard of a case NOT improved by an elemental diet. Guest guest
I just talked to the head nurse of the clinic and she agreed with me although she disagreed with me about the results of Gastrocrom. She said she believes it helps most people completely but most of those people haven't had the problems that BJ has had to the extent. She is going to talk to the Dr. Friesen and see if he will give Dr. a call about starting the elemental and elimination diet. Guest guest
This would make sense since BJ is much happier when he doesn't eat. I have recommended him to so many people and funny thing when I saw him last week he said that a couple of people have come in holding off some of the archives from this list with his name on it and our enthusiastic reports on him. Guest guest
The nurse at the clinic tried to tell me that they have had a 92% success rate with Gastrocrom and EG. I think this is crap. I asked how many kids they actually have with EG and how they came across this number. She said she wasn't sure.
