Has anyone on this list taken Baclomethasone Diproprionate? It's a topical

I think that is what the GI will put on if the food elimination

dosn't work.

I was prescribed the medicine by a Gastroenterologist at the University of

Washington Medical Center (UWMC). I was referred there after my regular

Gastroenterologist tried to get me off Prednisone & on Pentasa (a

maintainance medicine for Crohn's Disease) to which I had a severe reaction,

and my symptoms returned once I decreased the Prednisone below 10mg/day on

two separate attempts at getting me off the Prednisone. The doctor at the

university thinks the Crohn's is causing inflammation in my stomach. If I

were you, I'd try contacting a university or teaching hospital GI clinic to

find out if they would be willing to try you on some topical steroids. I

was very impressed with the way the nurse, student assistant and GI doctor

interacted with me at the UWMC.

Best of luck,

JOy,

this sounds like a drug very similar to fluticasone, a topical steroid

inhaled. the beauty of these drugs is that they have minimal first past

metabolism, the liver doesn't get it like with systemic steroids. It's

interesting that they're using it now for your group of diagnoses. They've

been using them lately for eosinophilic enteropathies and have had much

success with the eosinophilic esophagitis. The patients take HUGE doses of

it and there have been NO reported systemic side effects. What an enormous

improvement over those side effects of prednisone use!

Good Luck! I hope it works for you. Obviously, these patients swallowed

the medicine instead of inhaling it and it worked great for many of them.

-Dear Joy:

I'd be interested to know about who is prescribing that for you. Although I

attempted to research that on my own, and asked for help on this list, I

found out nothing, and did not get any help. So I contacted the National

Jewish Hospital in Colo. They told me that they are not presribing Flonase

or Flovent taken orally, although they have heard of in anecdotally. Not

much use to me, but I am still looking. Good luck.

Pete,

I found the abstract on one of the studies on Fluticasone. Do you have a

fax number?
