Guest guest
Mel: Has anyone thought about sending this young man's biopsy sample to an independent lab in the UK? I have pretty much lost faith in our government and the powers that be. I don't believe for one millisecond that if we had a case of nvCJD here in the US, that we would be told the truth. The cattlemen's lobby and other special interest groups that relate to the beef industry will make darn sure that pressure is applied in the right places to keep us in the dark. Has he been tested for familial CJD? What about his medical history -- are you aware of any surgeries? Also, I would like very much to purchase copies of the 3 television shows. Can you let me know how to do this? Thanks and congratulations for getting such incredible publicity for CJD in Utah!! Beverly G.
Guest guest
Channel 2, CBS, had a brief on a new CJD victim in Utah, Doug, just turned 30 years old, with wife Tracie, and father of an 8 and a near 3 year old. He has been showing symptoms for about 4 months, and was just verified by biopsy. Two different samples of the spinal fluid have been sent to Clarence Gibbs, second one at his request. Doug can still walk, talk, and eat, although his speech on the TV show was affected. He is showing many of the signs that we have discussed her on CJD Voice. Has also been at the U of U hospital and that is at least the third case they have seen this year. I asked about nvCJD and was told that the biopsy confirmed it as CJD, not nvCJD. Prior publicity, our Sep TV show and newspaper article have helped to stimulate her actions to get her legal affairs in order. She also viewed the one earlier this week. His inability to perform has cost him his job and they have no insurance. Spoke with Tracie and his Mother this pm. They are devastated as they recieved the news on Wed., 11/25. My prayers are with them. With two 44 year olds in Utah, a 39 year old in Denver, and a 38 year old in Fallon, NV, do we have a different strain of the disease?? Does anyone have the email address of the daughter in Fallon, NV? Mel in SLC, UT., 29 Nov 98.
