Guest guest
, We are on a latex avoidance. The school and stuff just avoids the obvious like latex balloons. At hospital and doctors offices, we tell them and they dont use the gloves and use the latex-free equipment which is just about everywhere now. I watch out for labels when I buy clothes now and since I do the laundry, that is everyone's clothes.. For Kody the issue that brought it all to bear was the adhesive in tape and skin breakdown. we had a terrible time figuring out how to keep a dressing on his central line until we figured out we would have to manage WIHTOUT adhesive tape of any kind. So the school also knows band-aids are out for kody. Since we dont eat out, this isnt a problem but it has been for many people who do eat, cuz the employees often use latex gloves in food preparation. Steph. Guest guest
Steph, I talked to my allergist about the use in food service of latex gloves and he didn't seem to realize that it is a problem. I looked on the internet and so far have found no specific articles about ingested Latex. I did find that I have the inhaled allergies that seem to go along with developing a latex allergy. I keep seeing food service workers with latex gloves on in Delis etc. Don't know yet if that is a problem for me, but do have contact dermatitis from Bras etc, and itchy feet when I wear Tennis shoes. Thanks for that tidbit. Everyone thought I was crazy because I couldn't stand to wear Tennis shoes. I was wondering if you have any articles or information about ingested Latex so I can learn more and have the info when I see the allergist next month. He is going to do some blood allergy tests and I would also like to know what the test is that everyone seems to feel gives the best results. I had saved the names of several test but have misplaced my paper somewhere. I seem to remember Cap Rast and Elisha?? Guest guest
Thanks, The page was unavailable, but will try again later. The Latex page that is. I hope it is just unavailable for now and not gone. I found tons of links on my search, but like I said none really dealt with the ingestion. Did find the statute from New York where they are banning it and can't fathom that California allows it..... Will have to go back and read more of your links. Have not educated myself about EE and from what ((((Carlo )))) says that could also be a problem for me in the future. Hope not, but they are moving upward it seems. Guest guest
Judy, Spencer's Eos's count in the blood will be really high and he will have a very low WBC. Go figure. Guest guest
No, I was interpreting what you said he said about it affecting the whole digestive system. Mine was discovered at the lower end of the small bowel and then in the lower stomach and upper small intestine. So it seemed to move upward than, Don't know about now and what it is doing. Still have those high counts. So maybe I took what you said wrong. Sorry if I misunderstood. Even so I wanted to understand what you guys were talking about so will read them one of these days regardless. Also have a 19 yo who is complaining of Ger and Stomach pain a lot lately. Just don't know what is going on with him. Another thing I wanted to ask you about was blood counts. When your family has high Eos, I imagine that their white count rises in proportion. But does the white count go a lot higher?? I.e. If 10,000 is normal and the eos are 1000, then a count of 11,000 would be expected, but is the count often Higher??? Is that clear as mud??? Guest guest
Is there anything consistent about this Disease. I was thinking that pain might be the only thing and then remembered the kids who have no outward symptoms. Gosh. It is almost like the harder I look the further it goes away. , When my eos go up the white count usually does too and sometimes like now it is way out of proportion. Waiting to hear if things are better from draw yesterday. I have had a consistently higher that normal white count since diagnosis, even with 0 eos. Guest guest
Wow. I cant believe your allergist has never heard of this. It is common knowledge in most of the latex-sensitive communities. I learned a LOT from the latex support group I used to belong to... I'll see if I can dig up the adress for that... on second thought, I'm sure there is a link to it from Kody's page... http://www.c4isr.com/harlow/kody Go to this link, then go to his Gtube page. There is a link there. LOL I'm not aware of any evidence that the eos move from one part to the other... that WOULD be disturbing.. Geez. DOnt want to think about dealing with EG on top of all of this. Guest guest
At the time Remi was tested for Latex allergy, it was NOT Elisa testing. There was only one lab in the country who tested for this, but now it is a much more recongized allergy. Probably more are testing for this. There are so many products with latex-it is unreal. From bras, underwear, socks, sweatpants, diapers (except Huggies) bathing suits to the rubber mats in the bathtub. Pencil erasers, koosh balls, paint....Balloons are a biggie for us. Remi reacts to those from inhaling the latex, but will react to touching the tires on her wheelchair. I found this site very helpful for us and Remi's teachers. It lists most know products with Latex. http://www.latexallergyhelp.com/ It lists products by either home or medical use. Good luck. Guest guest
, when they took the tape off of 's skin the area under the tape was red & looked like tiny blisters on it. It hadn't even been on there long. Within an hour of removing the tape, the area looked better. The next reaction was when we put him in Gerber pj's with the feet, his face, nose, & ears started turning red. We undressed him & gave him Benadryl. Since he is allergic to peanuts as well, the ped went ahead & gave us an epi-pen to have w/ us. Any suggestions? Rhonda

Guest guest
Make sure it was the latex first, before you worry. A lot of people are not allergic to the latex, but the powder in the glove. If you are not sure they can do an allergy test to find out for sure. I would bring it up with your ped. they can give you some advice.
