Guest guest
I just feel compelled to write that I have a very hard time with doctors who prescribe prednisone for anything other than short courses. Prednisone is a wonderful drug, it does decrease inflammation and as such, decreases pain and associated symptoms. But it doesnt get to the root of the problem. As parents, we have to strongly advocate for our children that our doctors go one step beyond just treating the symptoms, and try to get to the cause of the problem. I understand that getting to the point of achieving some relief in many cases is almost impossible, but I truly believe that if a doctor is not challenged or if is insulted when we challenge them to think " outside of the prednisone box " , then they are not the doctor for me. Prednisone, when used for long periods of time is very damaging to the body. Inhaled steroids have not been tested enough to know the complete story about them, but many doctors do believe that there is some systemic effect. I just needed to vent. Guest guest
Patty, You are right, prednisone has some horrible and possible deadly side effects. However, it has saved Kody's life on more than one occasion. The use of it at high doses for several months helped turn our entire family around and help us diagnose and treat our disease. It has a definite place in treatment, but you have to weight the pros and cons steph
Guest guest
Cathy, Prednisone was the ONLY thing that worked on all of us (before a completely elemental diet).. It helped us make the diagnosis of EE in 6 of us. steph
