Guest guest
Hello Everyone!! My name is Debi . I am 38/married/no kids/5'4 " and weigh somewhere over 500 lbs. I am house bound due to my weight. My husband is also obese but he is still active. Between the two of us we have tried every diet there is . . .sometimes we would lose some, then gain it plus more back. Other times we wouldn't even lose. . .the diet would be too hard to stay on long enough to lose. I've known about Dr. Atkins Diet for about 20 years. I went on it back then (as I have always had weight problems) and I lost 75 pounds. I got down to about 140. BUT I was very young and I really wasn't doing the diet correctly. I was still consuming the addictive substances, just in smaller quantities, so when I stopped dieting I gained it all back again. My husband and I, after hearing about Dr. Atkins thru another onelist I belong too, and then seeing him on 20/20 last week decided to give it a try. We bought the book and began the diet this past Saturday. We are following it properly and I already feel a big difference in my appetite. It's too soon to say we are losing (eventhough we both feel like we have!) but I really have no doubt this way of life is going to be the miracle that will give us our lives back! I would love to hear any success stories you all might have? How much have you all lost? How long have you been on the diet? I have a couple of questions I was hoping to get the answer to from someone on this list. We wanted to have eggs and bacon for breakfasts. My husband went out and bought some bacon but it said right on the package " Sugar Cured " . I told him we couldn't eat that so he went back to the store. He checked the ingredients on about 15 different brands of bacon and they all had sugar. I know bacon is allowed on this diet. . .but sugar is taboo! Is there bacon out there without sugar or are we allowed the amount that is found in bacon??? Also, oddly enough the main thing I am having trouble giving up is my Extra sugarfree gum!!! I chewed a LOT of gum and I love it. But it is sweetened with sorbitol which Dr. Atkins says to avoid. Would the sorbitol interfere with my achieving BDK?? And what do you all do if you need a cough drop???? I use them rarely but I have allergies, and occasionally I'll wake up coughing in the middle of the night and the only thing that will stop the cough and allow me to get back to sleep is popping a Halls cough drop. But I'll be damned if I'm going to ruin my BDK for a cough drop, so any suggestions?? And what about mouthwash and toothpaste?? I haven't read my toothpaste yet but my Listermint mouthwash has sorbitol in it!!!!! I've been using it anyway because I do spit it out but you are boung to swallow SOME, should I be concerned about that or am I being to nit picky now??? Any help you all can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Glad to be here and on Atkins!!!!! ;-D Warmly, Debi
