Guest guest
Just out of curiosity, I called the VT Dept of Health for some CJD statistics. Mike, the man I spoke with, was very helpful and called me back within 15 minutes. According to their records, there have been 13 recorded deaths by CJD since 1980, 7 of which occured between 1990 and 1997. There have been 481 deaths recorded as due to Alzheimers between 1990 & 1997, and 293 from other forms of presenile dementia. During this time frame, there has only been a population of around 560,00 in the entire state. I believe that as of this year 580,000 of us live here. If even 5% of Alzheimers deaths were misdiagnosed CJD, that raises the percentage of total CJD deaths within a small population dramatically, doesn't it? Food for thought....
