Guest guest
In Feb 99, I posted a note from that stated they were trying to change the blood donor policy to allow one CJD victim in the family and still allow the family members to donate. The family would not be allowed to donate if there were two victims of CJD in the family. I called a Dr. with the Red Cross and inquired about the policy change to see if it was still being considered. I was told that it would be implemented as soon as they got their computer network completed so that all were coordinated. I did not go into how closely these two victims had to be related, but was clearly told that one CJD victim in the family would not cause the rest of the family to be disqualified from donating. Now I am sure that genetic susceptibility will enter into this as they wanted to know the DNA on my wife. Suggest that you call the Doctors on the Red Cross near you and inquire about this policy change. Mel in SLC.
