Thanks Steph - I'll let him know what you said about your experience with

the food holiday. That is valuable info, because one of his main concerns

is the severe muscle cramps he gets when taking higher doses of Prednisone

(but that happened before he was taking calcium supplements).

Take care,

Joy,

As you know we just did this for our trip to Disney. REmember, though, that we

have EE and not EG so there may be a difference.

However, it worked fairly well with the kids. There are the side effects that

are more pronounced on higher doses which I am sure you are aware of. I will

tell you that I'm really not sure it was worth it for me in the end. It was

worth it for my husband, becuase he really needed to feel " normal " wiht a

" normal " family for a few days. I didnt feel well the whole week, had the side

effects of prednisone, still had some chest pain (though not much) and some GI

upset iether from the prednisone or the food. I was actually glad to get back

and taper off and get back to formula. Honestly, I'm not sure if I would have

been just as well off just eating and getting sick... for us, the big issue is

choking and I didnt choke, but still had to watch what I tried to eat.

I was already on a low dose too (5mg) then went up to 60mg. The kids went to

40mg.

Steph.

[eosinophilic gastroenteritis] food holiday

Hi all,

My husband is interested in the idea of a " food holiday, " where he would

take a higher dose of Prednisone to enable him to enjoy a few more foods

than what he is normally able to eat on his regular 5mg/day Prednisone dose.

I don't know enough about how the eos work, even though I've been doing a

lot of reading about it, to know how to go about this " food holiday. " Any

tips, suggestions, hints, etc. on how to carry out a " food holiday " are

welcome, as well as anything to watch out for or any " gotcha's " with doing

this - any info would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

-Joy
