Pat,

I'm a little confused. Both my Dad's and Mother-in-law's death certificate

are only one page. In my Dad's case the cause of death is listed as CJD as

per our neurologist's diagnosis. They died in 1996/1997 respectively in New

York State. Do you have a different type of certificate?

Thanks...........Vivian

Vivian,

I have a New York City Death Certificate. They are very secretive because of

confidentiality. It does not list the cause of death on the first page. This

is what is copied for Social Security, etc. On the second page -

" Confidential Medical Report " - the cause of death is listed. The cause of

death was not listed on the first page for my parents

either.....................Pat

Shar, it may be interesting to ask them how many people have died, by year from

1989 through 1997 for death codes 046.1 (primarily CJD), 331.5 (also CJD), 290.1

(pre-senile

dimentia before age 65) and 331.0 (Ricks and Alzheimers). These are

international codes and standard in all states. 425 people were reported to

have died of dimentia in Utah

from 1989 thru Mar 98 in Utah, whereas 13 were reported to have died of CJD in

the same period. Data for '97 were not complete as of 8/31/98. These records

appear to be very

slow in getting assembled.. Talked w/Robin on it this week, and I do not

believe that dimentia is a cause, but it is a symptom. I am of the opinion

that a lot of these

dimentia could be CJD, maybe even a higher percentage than the possible 13% of

Alzheimer. Could we get the medical profession to be more specific than just

dimentia?? Is it

legitimate cause? Will call the U of U Nerological Dept.adn the State Health

Dept Monday and ask them. Does Lynette or Dr. Jolyn have an opinion on

this????? Mel in SLC

Robin, I'm going to call the Colorado State Health Department on Monday to

see what we have to do to get the cause of death changed on my Dad's death

certificate. I'll let you know what I find out.
