On p. B2 of Today's New York Times Metro Section, in the bottom left

hand corner there is announcement - PLEASE read the full article

before you make any decisions based on this summary:

During the period of January 1991 to December 1996, " there may have

been a problem with the way New York Blood Center performed testing

of blood for viral infections. As a result, recipients of donated blood

products during that period may face a potential risk of

transfusion-transmitted infections, such as HIV and hepatits. "

" However, we believe the risk is remote because of the multiple

safeguards that were and remain in place. "

" If you received a transfusion of blood or blood components during that

time at a New York or New Jersey hospital and are concerned call

1- " questions and free testing.
