Guest guest
Hello to all: My name is and my wifes name is Patty. Our son is 12. He became ill January 18th, spent 26 days in the hospital - we live in St. , MN - and after 2 endoscopies, a colonscopy, several CT's, the primary diagnosis has been eosinophilic gastroenteritis. He has been on prednisone, gastrocrom, prilosec, some pain meds, his bowels completely shut down early on and he couldn't pass barium through for 5 days. He finally had to have an nj tube and that wonderful go lightly stuff flushed through him. He has seen an immunologist as of late who says there are raised levels of lymphocites and she thinks it may be more than a GI problem. He had a bone marrow taken and other blood tests havent shown raised lymphocitic activity and the bone marrow was normal. during that same test they took other biopsies and the eosiniphils were found this time in his colon and his esophogus. Has anyone heard of the book Breaking the Viscious Cycle by Elaine Gottschall? It recommends a Specific Carbohydrate Diet for GI diseases like Chrohns, Celiac disease, diverticulitis and such. No mention of EE or EG, though. has been on Neocate 1 + , thank God for insurance, but with the corn syrup solids in that drink it violates the diet immediatly. The only sugars allowed are honey, pure fructose, and saccharine. I apologize for rambling, it seems there is so much to discuss with this affliction, and we know nothing and are looking for anything that may work. People tell us to go to Mayo, but they wouldn't do anything different from what has been done already, and these docs do have phones for crying out loud! Mayo is only 70 miles from my front door. i cant believe these docs dont talk to each other. i look forward to getting to know you all, and we will include you in our prayers! God Bless and Patty, mom & dad of EE< EG ?

Neocate has been an important part of treatment for many kids on this list. I have been told by our GI that corn should not be a problem with EE. Is doing any better since his hospitalization? Guest guest
I was thinking the same thing Jen. Neocate, Prednisone and Gastrocrom among a few other meds are the only helps I have read and heard about with EE/EG. Where do you live Jen? Dawn, mommy to Dakota, 6 and BJ, 3-1/2, eosinophil gastroenteritis, reflux, asthma, fundo 10/96, ear tubes 7/98, chronic strep (tonsils and adenoids coming out 3/7/99) Jenericm@... wrote: > From: Jenericm@... > > In a message dated 99-03-20 09:30:50 EST, you write: > > << Has anyone heard of the book Breaking the Viscious Cycle by Elaine > Gottschall? > It recommends a Specific Carbohydrate Diet for GI diseases like Chrohns, > Celiac > disease, diverticulitis and such.
