Guest guest
I have a question about bacon. I just went to the grocery store to stock up on my Atkins foods. When I went to the bacon section and began reading the labels, I became so frustrated. Almost every brand of bacon has sugar added, but no carbs, and the one brand (Publix brand) that specifically mentions " no sugar added " contains carbs (1 carb per slice). As far as I can tell, there was nothing in the ingredients label that would even hint that there should be any carbs. Ingredients are listed as follows: Pork cured with water, salt, sodium phosphates, sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrite. Serving size: 1 pan fried slice, 60 cal., 5g fat, 1g carb, 0g sugars, 3g protein. Can anyone figure this out? Does someone know of a brand of bacon that contains no sugar and no carbs (and is low in sodium)? Also, as far as cream is concerned, the Publix brand of whipping cream that I use states that there are 0g carb/serving, but the Atkins book says that cream has at least .9g. Should I go by what Atkins says or the nutrition label. Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just starting this again, and I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly and avoiding all hidden carb grams. Geez, the things you learn once you begin reading labels! :-) Thanks for your help.
