KODY AGAIN

AGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! I have pulled all my hair out, screaming my last

scream. I cannot believe all this @@#$431!!!!

While they were scoping Kody yesterday morning, (he was intubated, scope

in the duodenum)... his GI picked up the GT drainage bag -- OVER 400CC

IN IT -- to move and DUH, GRAVITY WORKS. 400cc starts rapid emptying

into the gut, through the esophagus and INTO THE LUNGS.

Fortunately, Kody had an angel (must have been a whole host of them).

The anesthesiologist caught it immediately and suctioned him, got him

stablized (they told me he desaturated and turned blue, developed

laryngospasm...etc etc). Postop CXR was clear. Obviously they admitted

him and with his earlier crit dropped from 31 to 26, they started to

transfuse a unit of blood. 20 minutes into the infusion, he spiked a

temp of 102; so they followed transfusion reaction protocol and stopped

it immediately. Again, a whole host of angels were with him.. cause his

temp came back down and several hours later anotehr clear CXR and a unit

of blood transfused successfully (by the second attempt, his crit had

droped to 25). The EGD was obviously aborted without much being seen or

done, but the previously huge ulcer was healing, no big bleeders were

found. One GI doc in there thought the balloon from his low-placed GT

site, might be blocking the pylorus and causing all his problems (and

not CIP???!@#$)

This morning he felt much better and we actually got to come home,

obviously having to watch him like a hawk for aspiration pneumonitis

which takes several hours to flare, but not so much as one cough out of

him.

His GI doc was absolutely pale -- whiter than Kody actually -- and the

anesthesiologist was literally sweating bullets in the PACU (I was cold

in there and he had sweat dripping from him).

I cannot believe this. We are the " 1 " in every statistical nightmare.

One kid gets perforated during an EGD, another aspirates and then has a

reaction to a blood transfusion. WHEN WILL THIS END??? (Dont answer

that..)
