Internet Surcharges May be Coming - Write Your Congressman TODAY

Pass this along: The House has a bill set up for a vote ASAP on whether to

charge long distance charges for Internet access even if you dial-up

locally. This is something that affects each of us. Please read and foward:

Congress will be voting in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!!!!!!!! CNN stated that the

government would, in two weeks time, decide to allow or not allow a charge

to your phone bill equal to a long distance call EACH time you access the

Internet.

if you choose, visit the address and fill out the necessary form. If EACH

one of us forwards this message on to others in a hurry, we may be able to

prevent this injustice from happening! What Next? PLEASE PASS THIS ON

Here is the letter I sent to my Congressman:

Dear Congressman Delahunt,

What is the difference between phone usage if it is voice or

electronic? I can see none. If I purchase a service, and the way I use it

cannot be differentiated in any way from other types of use (notwithstanding

duration of usage), then how I use it should not be an issue. If the phone

companies do not wish to provide unlimited local or longer distance service

as a package, then let them charge for ALL such calls, not just those which

provide internet or other electronic access. This may become a moot point

as those using the internet for long durations switch to broadband. However,

until broadband becomes available, many of us in rural areas (like much of

the Cape), are stuck with the phone lines.

I sincerely hope that you will vote against allowing phones line

providers to add a surcharge for internet access.
