Hi Everyone,

I was in touch recently with Lydia Bogan who is a Mom in Ohio who is

fighting

the insurance companies for coverage of Neocate for her 29 month old

daughter who is allergic to Protein.

Their story was recently covered by CNN.

http://www.cnn.com/2000/HEALTH/03/13/baby.food.fight/index.html CNN story

Currently there is a bill in the Ohio Legislature that was authored by Gene

Krebs. If any of you are interested in the content of that bill you can

call Representative Krebs office at and request the

information package on Housebill 218 (the Bogan Baby Bill).

In this process an organization named M.A.M.A. (Mothers Aligned for Medical

Advocacy) was born. This organization is growing rapidly and has come to

National

attention. Leaders of this group have met with Vice President Gore and all

of the Presidential Candidates.... M.A.M.A. is planning a National

convention to elect officers...

Lydia is the president of M.A.M.A. and her vice president is Sandy Bulcher.

You can contact Sandy at M.A.M.A.dbulcher@... or Lydia at

M.A.M.A.edbogan@... . They are working on getting non profit

status and have started a web page. Anyone can join this group. There are

no membership fees. They just need your name and address.

When I asked Lydia about fighting the insurance companies, her advice was as

follows:

Document everything..Every phone call made or received, who you talked to

and the date and time. The subject of the conversation....

Contact the Media.

If your local paper or TV station has someone who investigates and acts on

things contact them.

Contact your legislators.....

After reading in the CNN story that 24 other states already have provided

for coverage of formulas. I would also advise contacting the State

Insurance commissioner to see what the laws governing coverage are in your

state.....

I hope this will help some of you who are struggling to get coverage.....

Judy
