Second TV show in SLC, CWD summary in SD and CO

Have a second TV show coming Wed, 11/25 in SLC on Channel 4 at 1000 pm. The

story will focus on CJD in humans, six in UT this year, plus the CWD in deer and

elk that is being tested for. They started showing headlines Sat night and I

saw two of them today, so it will get a lot of advertising.

Also learned that they have had 40 cases of CWD reported in deer harvested this

year in CO.

They also have 38 cases of CWD in elk in SD, plus two deer, for 40 total out of

178 brains tested in SD. I think the SD cases were nearly all from elk and deer

farms, where the animals are kept quite close together. All tests have been

taken since 01 Oct 97.

Also learned that SD has had three reported cases of CJD from 89 thru 97. I

believe two were in 94 and one in 96. No other information available.

Utah has taken 110 samples of deer brain stems, results are back on 20 tests, so

far none are positive, which is fortunate. Mel in SLC
