HI,

I am writing this for a friend who does not have email at this time... you

may remember and her son ? He was diagnosed with EG last

fall, and was placed on neocate and subdue.

Anyway, they have had a lot of trouble lately with the hospital that did the

diagnosing, so their pediatrician talked to a GI at another hospital, and HE

said that it didnt sound like EG to him, but instead thought that has

eosinophilic colitis. He said that since there are no peripheral

eosinophilia present, that it does not indicate EG. Has anyone heard of

this before? Any information you can share would really be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,

Heidi (mom to her own crazy family!)

Heidi --

your post is a bit confusing. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is the big

umbrella of diseases that encompasses the entire GI tract. Eosinophilic

esophagitis is a variant of that disease, only affecting the esophagus.

Beyond the esophagus, usually the inflammation can variably be found in

the stomach and intestines, usually both at one time or another. I'm

not sure what difference it makes if the eos are in the colon or

stomach, treatment is the same. perhaps they were talking about a

different type of colitis rather than EG?
