Guest guest Posted December 11, 1998 Report Share Posted December 11, 1998 -- HONOLULU, Dec. 10 (Reuters Health): The American Medical Association (AMA) plans to ask Congress to permit the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to REGULATE HERBAL REMEDIES AND DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS.....The AMA House of Delegates meeting voted this week to ask Congress to AMEND THE DIETARY SUPPLEMENT HEALTH AND EDUCATION ACT TO PERMIT FDA OVERSIGHT OF THE SUPPLEMENT AND HERBAL REMEDY INDUSTRY. The AMA also wants the FDA to SET UP A MECHANISM TO RECEIVE REPORTS OF ADVERSE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE USE OF THOSE PRODUCTS, said AMA trustee Dr. Palma Formica......Formica told how a patient showed her an herbal preparation that was supposed to increase energy.
