Guest guest
When an elderly person falls and breaks a hip, depending on what the bones look like (i.e. arthritic changes etc.), They might under go a surgery called a total hip replacement which uses either plastic or stainless steel hardware. Another alternative is if the bones are repaired with a plate and a screw to hold them together. I could be wrong but there might be other disease of the bone where much younger people MIGHT have bone implanted in a type of graft to stimulate new growth. The hip is sometimes used as the donner bone for none hip sites. It has been over 10 years since I have been working in an acute phase so there have been many, many changes and updates Judy
