Guest guest
BBC/THUSDAY/11-12-98/ -- (a few paragraphs from an article) -- Health Secretary Dobson has ADMITTED that DRUGS MADE FROM BRITISH BLOOD PRODUCTS ARE STILL IN WIDESPREAD USE DESPITE " FEARS " THEY MAY CARRY THE HUMAN FORM OF MADCOW DISEASE, (SUPPOSED TO BE PULLED BY SEPTEMBER)..... (ALSO IN THE SAME ARTICLE), Dr. Dealer said there were RISKS THAT DRUGS DERIVED FROM BRITISH BLOOD PRODUCTS COULD BE INFECTED WITH nvCJD. (the 2 drugs spoken of were ANTi-D and GAMMA-GLOBULIN) He said we should get GAMMA GLOBULIN " OFF THE MARKET " ! He told MP-S: we don't know how many people are suffering from CJD and it is unlikely we will not know for some years. The exact Risk of CJD infection is unknown, BUT A RECENT LETTER IN THE MEDICAL JOURNAL THE LANCET, ESTIMATED IT COULD BE ANYTHING BETWEEN 1,000 AND 10,000,000 POTENTIAL " CJD " CARRIERS IN THE UK//////////// QUESTION??????? WHY ARE'NT PEOPLE WORRIED ABOUT CJD IN BLOOD HERE??? EVEN THOUGH THEY " CLAIM " BSE AND nvCJD are not here, CJD IS JUST AS DEADLY AND JUST AS HIDEOUS AS nvCJD. SHOULD WE NOT BE CONCERNED ABOUT CJD? Guest guest
> QUESTION??????? WHY ARE'NT PEOPLE WORRIED ABOUT CJD IN BLOOD HERE??? Terry: We are worried about blood here!!!! I have sent many a letter requesting that UK immigrants and ones who visited UK since the 80's not be allowed to donate, hey even Bayer bio-ethics in their recent recommendations publication suggested this be done. The response....would cripple the blood supply. Even many letters asking why my son is still allowed to donate blood even after he received recalled blood from a donor, not at risk but who died of sCJD. The response they are not prepared to take such actions. They have done studies, there is alot of implicated product out there and not one of these high risk people who receive and continually receive at risk product have contracted CJD. So, now in USA it is ok to use recalled product as long as it has a disclaimer on it....who does that benefit? As a mother does it mean my worries or anxieties are any less.....NO. But logically it does. I ask you Terry what more can we do, we write, increase awareness, and protest their actions. a G

International college students come to the states to go to school and often sell their blood here! For the government to say there is no risk to the US because we don't have BSE is BS! We've got no policy in effect to protect anyone from the blood products! The pediatricians thought I might be a little radical when I refused to let my children get the Hep B shots this past August because of my concerns of CJD transmission/exposure from the vaccine. They've now changed their tunes since the ENTIRE COUNTRY of France has banned the HEP B shot and sued Kline Beecham and YES!! that is the same producer we in the US get the HEP B shots from!!! We as the Public MUST stop ASSUMING that the government is protecting us and doing things in OUR best interest!! The bottom line is TOP DOLLAR for them NOT how many lives are lost. Liz.
