Guest guest
Forming another foundation would require another incorporation which involves attorneys, etc. and some expense--usually $400-500 unless someone will do it for less. Tax-exempt status is necessary. There are filing requirements with IRS depending on the income level of the foundation. My husband is an attorney and I will try to get him to e-mail everyone the necessary steps over the weekend. He formed a tax-exempt corporation for our local Land Conservancy here about 5 years ago. It was a lot of work and took quite a lot of time dealing with the state Attorney General's Office and then applying after that for the IRS tax exempt status. Probably would be easier to work with what we already have, if possible. I did e-mail the CJD Foundation during my mother in laws illness this fall (she died Nov. 18 after less than 3 months of CJD in FLORIDA) and received no literature, no e-mail back, contact--NOTHING. I think the first thing that must be done is to wake the Foundation up. They apparently are just a shell at this point and need some help with strategic planning for direction, purpose, etc. I have been hesitant to ask anyone to send a donation because of not hearing from them, seeing no actions on their part, and not knowing anything about their activities. This could all change with an active Foundation. Vicki
