Guest guest
Great idea , but I take care of my ex-husband. He is a quadraplegic. We are isolated and I live in a small mississippi town with no such access. I Wish. I am tired of being inside. 4 years now. It's almost like being in jail. I understand Debi is inside too. I think and I gained all our weight because all we do is watch tv. In our case we can go out but it is a major ordeal. spine has curved so bad he doesn't want anyone to see him plus he gained 100 pounds. I can't get anyone to babysit for long and really no where but Walmart to go to if I did. It's just one of those things. I'm hanging in there and this list gives me something else to do. I've been writing but it seems now I'm brain dead....LOL anyway the inspiration is gone for some reason. I guess sugar does all kind of stuff...some good , lots bad....well, thanks for the idea....when I get my tax refund I may try a treadmill and see if I can at least do some...more than I am now......Jean
Guest guest
Hi, here, About swimming, I used to swim regularly for several years. It was great because it didn't hurt my feet and I could get a good workout without stressing my body out. I usually went in the whirlpool afterwards too and that helped relax any tight muscles, that was the best part. Then I switched to working out at the gym; weightlifting to build up leg and arm muscles. I also tried the pool exercises, aquasizes(sp?). Even though i am 45 yrs. old I participated in the seniors class because that was more my speed. Like Dominic, I also had pain walking on the floor barefoot, so I started wearing thongs to the pool. And in the exercise classes in the pool I wore runners(the instructor also wore them-so I asked her if I could) and this helped cushion my feet in the pool. .I bought a cheap pair at Zellers with velcro fastening so they were easy to get on an off. Some people may have looked at me strangely, but I just ignored it. THe pool class was a lot of fun, if the exercises got too active for me, then I just went off to the side and floated on my back etc. I find swimming so relaxing, it is a great stress reducer! Maybe swimming in water takes us back to the time when we felt so secure floating in amniotic fluid???? >Dom > >> >>Reply-To: CMTUS (AT) onelist (DOT) com >>To: CMTUS CMTUS (AT) onelist (DOT) com> >>Subject: swimming and children >>Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 09:44:43 -0800 >> >>Hi Rose-Marie, >> >>What a great story about your swimming son Pierre! I agree Becky, deep water can be very scary.(Aside from our fear of drowning, there is also our fear of sharks!!!) But you do enjoy proximity to water(boating, fishing). Living nearby the ocean most of my life, I find it very calming to be near water, especially moving water (ocean waves, streams, waterfalls etc.) I was also lucky to live in an apartment with a swimming pool in grade 10 so I took lessons to get over any fears of water. My husband also has a fear of water, because of nearly drowning several times before the age of 10! Take care,
Guest guest
Hi Sue, When I was a young girl I swam a lot. My main trouble was walking barefoot to the pool. And when it came time to get out of the pool I had a hard time climbing up the ladder. At times I would try to do the diving board, but I couldn't do it if I was tired because of the balance issue. I was always afraid I would trip and fall. The other problem I had was when we went swimming as a group I would always be last because I couldn't walk barefoot and had to put on socks and leg braces. However I loved to swim. The last time I swam was 2 years ago and the only way I can get to the pool is via a wheelchair. I can jump in but I don't. Instead I use the lift to get in and out. I tire very easily unless I swim on my back. Plus I can now longer hold my breath under water. The pressure on my lungs is to much and I feel like I'm going to suffocate. However I still love to swim when I get the chance. It is hard when I can't find someone to go with me. Take care, Jeanie ********************* In a message dated 7/16/00 3:31:15 PM Pacific Daylight Time, hordermason@... writes: << Do any of you have trouble swiming. Guest guest
Here's a good one...I recently took my nephews to a water park. As usual I rode the the rides and enjoyed the day. I did however decide to put my fear of embarrassment aside, and wore my AFO's with sandals and my bathing suit. Not exactly the most attractive sight, but it felt better to do what I needed. Only bad part was when I went on one slide that dropped into twelve feet of water. Let me tell you, AFO's and flippers have nothing in common. I used to be a very athletic swimmer...well not so much anymore and especially not with ankle braces. I almost had to get the life guard to save me. I was afraid if I told my 9 year old nephew, he'd try to help and I'd end up drowning the both of us. Ya' know...where are those girls from Baywatch when you need 'em! I knew I'd be OK since only the good die young! 8-} Barry << Do any of you have trouble swiming. I did at school but that was just because I was terrified of the water.
