RE: Lo Carb breads

Just wanted to mention a couple of things about the low carb bread mixes.

I've experimented quite a bit with the Ketogenics brand bread mix. If you

purchase it, (and it's a bit expensive -- I think it's about $6.95 per bag),

you should know a couple of things. First of all, the mix is tempermental.

Some folks have great luck, others don't. There's an " alternate recipe "

that many people use that yields much better results than the recipe

included on the bag. I can give it to you if you decide to try the mix.

Also, even though the mix is marketed as being for bread machines, you DO

NOT have to use a bread machine to make the bread. As a matter of fact,

some people find that they have better results making the bread by hand.

And just remember, this isn't going to be your " typical " bread. It's very

dense and has a distinctive taste. Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE it. I make

it and toast it for sandwiches, and I even use the mix for pizza crust. But

some people are disappointed with it, so I just wanted to let you know

before you spend $6.95 plus shipping! :)

Also, about the low carb tortillas -- the new ones are pretty tasty, but I

was pretty ticked off when I went to Publix (a major supermarket chain) and

found flour tortillas on the shelf with LOWER carb counts than the expensive

" low carb " tortillas I ordered online! I learned a valuable lesson, and now

I'm buying local.

I just heard this weekend from a friend that the whole wheat tortillas

are different now. Same carb count, but they arent as soft as before...

are these the ones you are talking about.. are they still good?
