It must be the season for jerky school people. The principal at my

older son's school informed me that iel would not be welcome there

when he starts kindergarten in the fall. What he actually said was that

we would have to put him in a school that has a full time nurse, he

wouldn't expect his staff to take time away from their other duties,

etc. I'm furious. How in this day and age can any school person not

understand the concept of least restrictive placement, equal and free

access to education, ADA, and I could go on. I am being advised to first

talk to the special ed department and get him on an IEP. I know this

helps the school system because there is money attached, but I was

interested in the comment about the 504 being easier to enforce. Any

suggestions are welcome.

We can wait until next year, he won't be 5 until Sept 2.

Cognitively he is ready, but I wonder if a little more emotional

maturity would help in dealing with the jerks he is bound to run into.

Have many of you delayed starting school for the emotional/logistic

reasons?

asthma, reflux., and Zac, age 7,
