I got 7 out of 8, mostly B's and C's but all my mother did was moan

that I'd failed maths. They did recover quickly afterwards and buy me

a present but it was that moan I remembered. I hope I'm more positive

about my children and their achievements than my parents were about

me.

I got C and two D's at A level, much lower than expected but had

discovered boys by then :)) I'll always remember that Prince

got the same grades and got into Cambridge whereas I had to retake! I

retook two of them and got 2 B's which was enough to get me into my

uni of choice but by then was bored with studying and went into

nursing, then decided that was a mistake and ended up at Uni after

all. Still it was all good life experience!

The only one I was bothered about knowing the result of was Latin since

I thought I may have failed it and was relieved to find I'd got a C. I

always felt that The Olds weren't v pleased but they never said as much.

They didn't do pressie buying or even special meals for things like that

though which probably explains why these days I have to do things for

personal satisfaction rather than reward IYSWIM.

Jack,

I like the choice your brother made and how fortunate he was to have you with him during that time. I do not want to go beyond being attached to my oxygen and being able to swallow my meds. If I can't do that, let nature take it's course. How do you feel about oxygen for yourself? I know that you do not use it now. I know I will be talking to my mama at that time also.

Sharon, my kid brother was diagnosed with ALS some years ago. It, too, is a disease with little or no effective treatment and eventually fatal. Depending on where in the body ALS begins, there can be a considerable difference in the progress of the disease. Usually, the first indication is the loss of the muscle between the thumb and the forefinger. From there it begins to affect the limbs and then the spinal area.

My brother was first affected in the throat area, which is considered the last stage. It becomes impossible to eat, breath or talk. He refused feeding tubes and breathing apparatus and chose to let nature take its course. I stayed with him at home during the final weeks. His spirits were up, he laughed a lot - well, sort of - as much as his weak muscles allowed him.

On the last night, I heard noises as if he were trying to talk. I went in and asked him who he was talking to.

"Momma," he said. He died within the hour. Jack79/IPF - UIP/dx06/05 Maine

Hi Sher, wondering how the pflex is working for you. ive gone from 1500 on my incentive spirometer to 1750. My paper stated for my age and height i should be at 2150, so not bad. i faithfully use it and i know asthma is different but it says 6 wks for improvement so don't give up. Bruce i also notice on pfts that if sinuses are bad or sometimes the way you sit or even being tired will have an effect. Yeah for warmer weather here for a day in the windy and i do mean windy city. Also my brother in law was just diagnoised for positive als. Can anyone give me some info? i talked to als foundation but as we all know groups who have been there know better Sharon p asthma ph2008

SherPFT's are only so accurate.. Are you finding a need for more oxygen thatsupports what the PFT's show? Is that what you would have anticipatedbefore going to the doctor? If you're having what you describe as flulike symptoms that would certainly push your PFT's down, even if youhaven't progressed. He gave you a pneumonia shot while you're having flu like symptoms? If by short dose of prednisone he means a six day run, then I wouldn'tequate that to all the things we fear about prednisone. I have donethose when required on top of an antibiotic. Actually a couple of timesbut can't remember why the other time.Yes, historically progression will happen. Hope you're feeling bettersoon though as it sounds like you have something additional at themoment on top of the disease.>> I saw pulmodude this morning...> I have 16% less lung capacity than I did last Nov. Also he says Idefinitely have clubbing...gave me a pneumonia shot (last one was 5 yrsago).> He will wait 2 wks and see if I'm feeling better.....kinda flu-likesymptoms and if> not he wants to start a short series of prednisone. He knows I do notwant to take it..Lord knows I don't need any wt. gain. I'm afraid if Iget on for any reason I won't be able to get off again for whateverreason.> Historically , progression will happen....>>> Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there!>

twice when I was in the hospital, they put me on 240mgs of prednisone for a few days. I'm on 30 right now trying to get down to 20. Weight gain isn't a problem for me, as I have such a hard time eating cuz of sob and no appetite. My face is a bit bloated though lol Citrus Heights, CaliforniaCOPD-Asthma LIP-2006NHL-1999SJS-1994New LifeFeed the hungryFree Mamograms Subject: Re:

Sher,

60mg is alot but I've been on 100mg a day and lived to tell the tale. Before I agreed to take it though I'd have some serious questions for the doctor. Questions like, what are we trying to accomplish with this? With your IPF diagnosis prednisone is generally not effective. Does he think you have alot of inflammation going on? How long does he want you on the prednisone?

I really understand your reluctance. In my case I know that prednisone has been effective in the past so it probably would be again but I'm still reluctant to take it unless I absolutely have to.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers Sher!

How often do you use your incentive spirometer? I just got one the last time I was in the hospital. I can't believe they haven't given me one before this. Citrus Heights, CaliforniaCOPD-Asthma LIP-2006NHL-1999SJS-1994New LifeFeed the hungryFree Mamograms
