Guest guest
Hi, After a shaky start last month, food is going well for iel, we seem to be successful with canned peaches, pears, mandarin oranges, pineapple, fresh grapes, and potatoes. It's looking like fruits are good, as I suspected. If corn and rice go well we are going to do a great big happy dance! We know that dairy, eggs, meat, gluten, soy, shellfish, and nuts are out for quite a while if not permanently. My question is: It's starting to look like iel's EE/EG is directly caused by foods that he is significantly allergic to. His Rast tests ( three different times from three different labs) are all very consistent both with each other and in showing which foods he is most reactive to. This seems different than most of the people on the list, where allergy tests aren't consistent with symptoms. Almost nothing is not reactive, on Rast or skin tests, but the degree of allergic response, from slight to severe, is the same every time. I wonder if there are different " strains " of this disease. Is he an exception with this pattern or is there so much variation that this isn't unusual? Can't wait to see the article when it comes out. I hope it's Sunday, that's the only edition our bookstore carries. Vicki
Guest guest
Vicki- When we started with this disease, AJ was just like iel. She tested positive to every food that also made her sick. At one time or another, she has tested positive to 44 foods. And at one point, whatever she ate for more than a few weeks, her system would suddenly react to it and shut down. We ran out of formulas and that is one of the reasons we ended up on Neocate. I don't know if it is because she has had very little food for so many years, (like she is so old) or what, but she only tests positive to milk now. She is so allergic to milk though, that she can't eat beef either. We can't kiss her if we have just had a dairy product or share glasses, silverware......When you avoid a food for a long period, you can outgrow an allergy. You never outgrow shellfish, peanut and tree nut allergies though. AJ still has the disease now, but without the allergies. She can eat very little and when she eats too much she is in pain. I don't know if this helps any.
