Guest guest
Hello All! I'm heading to the doctor in a last ditch effort to help with this RLS problem. I had my foot taped last week by a podiatrist for a different problem and was symptom free for about 5 days!!!!! I could learn to live that way. I've seen a neuro who wants the sleep study done. I'm not with a good insurance company and will have to pay the first $1,000 so I'm not anticipating that. He thinks he cannot diagnose RLS without the sleep study. So, I'm going to my GP tomorrow armed with all the knowledge gleaned from this list. I do not want to discontinue the 100mg Zoloft in the mornings. I take .25 Zanax in the afternoon and .5 xanax before bed for fibromyalgia. The xanax is actually the best thing I've found for the RLS symptoms but am concerned with dependency. What, in your collective opinion, is a good starting point with regard to the strength of Mirapex? I know I'm ready to live like most of the real world lives and if this drug will help then give me some! Since I am going to try to sound so informed at the doctor's office tomorrow I really need to know a good starting point for the Mirapex. Thanks. Tina - 47 (yikes!) Guest guest
Restless legs syndrome is a clinical diagnosis. A sleep study may show leg movements that last longer than the movements of periodic limb movement disorder, the study may show peiodic limb movements or show nothing to help the diagnosis. Some sleep disorders specialist think that all or nearly all people with RLS have periodic limb movement disorder, experienced as leg jerks. Question for the group: anybody have jerks and RLS Pamela wellscon wrote: > > > Hello All! > > I'm heading to the doctor in a last ditch effort to help with this RLS > problem. Guest guest
Jerks? Not me,except maybe for a few friends and relatives (who I dearly love). Seriously, in the morning my bedclothes are largely undisturbed so I don't think I have any noticeable PLMD. The only time I wake up at night usually is due to my bladder alarm going off. CHEERS!! Guest guest
Hi All, Yes, I have both PLMD and RLS. The PLMD is almost NEVER noticed by myself or my husband yet the sleep study showed that I have a fairly severe case of it. The RLS didn't seem to bother me until much later after this diagnosis. I've been on Sinemet 25/100 for several years and just stopped taking it 6 months ago because it seemed no longer effective and the RLS was getting much worse, not to mention the EDS (Excessive Daytime Sleepiness). I tried Mirapex. I think it was ..125mg/day which seemed to work sometimes but mostly not. Quit that. Tried Xanax .25 mg., and later 1/2 of .25mg. Seems the tiredness is getting so much worse. I had some Sinemet left from 6 months ago and have recently begun taking one at night as needed. DR. LEVEN, CAN SINEMET BE USED 'AS NEEDED'? The recent acticle Dr. Leven talked about recently, indicating the EDS was not caused by PLMD and the frequent awakenings or interrupted sleep. In response to recent findings, my neurologist is trying me on 5mg. Ritalin (my blood test for Narcolepsy showed DR2 negative and DQw1 positive which I guess means that I do have the genetic marker for narcolepsy but who knows for sure since I don't have cataplexy, just extremely weak feelings in my legs/body). So far, Ritalin is like taking an aspirin. I don't feel any results, or maybe the dose is too low. Anyway, I just keep on keeping on, trying to find some way getting my mind off of my problems and on to my family and friends. Star PLEASE COMMENT, DR. LEVEN!!! Guest guest
Great question Jeanne. I am sleepy during the day now due to anemia, but when i was on Requip I was very sleepy after my first dose of the day. that was not my main reason for quitting it though. When you take it., you HAVE to take it. It was a week(or more) after I started weaning myself off of it till I could even sit down in the afternoon. My legs would immediately start jerking due to the lack of Requip. The meds Im taking at night make me so tired in the morning I can hardly function, For some strange reason I let him put me on Vistaril. Bad news - very sleepy, but still jumpy and then when I did crash about 5 AM, i couldn't get up. It also left me groggy feeling all day. Well, i guess that's really hard to tell with the anemia. Anyway, I just spoke with and besides problems with her diabetes, shes having GI problems and anemia. She is still taking the Requip. Her DR. doesn't think it is aggravating the other medical problems, but ------ I think it's strange that I'm also having GI problems and anemia. I was also having bad problems with blurred vision until i quit the Requip. Now if anyone is taking this and it's YOUR answer, then don't asssume you would have the same problems i've had . One thing we've all learned on here is that everything affects everyone differently. I just kind of feel it my obligation to the group to share what's happening. Please continue to remember in your prayers. Tonight I'm going back on the Xanax. I just hope i sleep some & wake on time. Things can be bad at night, but i'm handling it so far. When I can't we'll cross that bridge then.. I guess, in essence Jeanne -- anytime you have to quiet down your body, it's gonna get sleepy. I'm not sure that made sense but I'm too tired to explain anymore. Sorry I have carried on so. Wishing sleep for everyone, Ninette
