Guest guest
Dear Group: At the risk of sounding stupid, what is PLMD? My Neurologist has never mentioned it . What are the symptoms associated with it. I see many people talk about it and I never asked. Why I don't know. I have had a sleep study done but because I could not lay there for the required time they really did not get a good reading on me because a sleep study requires SLEEP! Even though I take Mirapex, Klonopin,Ritilin, Vicodin ES and BP medications I'm having a terrible time again. The vicodin makes me sleepy enough to rest but not sleep. Pain medications keep me awake but in conjuction with all the other meds it makes me drowsy for a while. I sleep maybe 2.5 hrs a night (you should see my sleep log) same every night, same time, same symptoms, same routine of walking the house and considering banging my legs, if I could(arm and shoulder in soft sling cast). Thanks for any thoughts and answers to the PLMD question. Joyce Skowrunski-Popp
Guest guest
Hi Joyce-- PLMD is Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. After I have fallen asleep my legs kick and sometimes my arms will flail (makes it dangerous for my husband!) These kicks bring you out of sleep to a micro arousal, not fully awake, but just enough to disturbe your sleep. I just read an article in the night-walker comparing it to the reflex that happens when you touch something hot, it's an in-voluntary action. Usually a sleep study or your bed partner can tell you if you do this. My poor husband said I really kicked him hard the other night. The Xanax helps my RLS, but doesn't do anything for the PLMD... Hope I answered your questions. How are you feeling? Pretty sore I bet... Talk to ya later.
