Guest guest
Hi Welcome to the group. As you state, motor activity during sleep to the point of sitting up, is not normal. If this is occurring during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, when the muscles are normally relaxed, this could represent a mild case or an early sign of so-called " REM Sleep Behavior Disorder " (RBD). It is interesting that you are taking doxepin (Sinequan), which is a tricyclic antidepressant. Drugs of this group have been associated with RBD. Unfortunately, the only way to make the diagnosis is by a sleep study to confirm the stage of sleep and the motor activity. The " sitting " or other actions is felt by some to represent the acting out of a dream. Such behavior is frequently seen in young children, before their brain is mature, and is normal. (As in the case of Jeanne's grandchild). RBD should respond to discontinuance of the doxepin. If it doesn't, Klonopin has been found to be very effective in treating RBD. The problem with RBD is that the motor activity can progress to the point where the patient injures themself, as is the case with sleep-walking. The first step is to see somone knowledgeable in sleep medicine and get a diagnosis. I do not think this is related to your RLS or Sinemet.
