Guest guest
Dear Colin You mentioned that your mother is currently taking Triptafen M. I don't know what the " M " stands for, but Triptafen is a combination of amitriptyline (Elavil in the US) and perphenazine (Trilafon in the US). Perphenazine belongs to the phenothiazine class of drugs. These drugs are universally avoided in RLS because of worsening of the symptoms of RLS. They are also associated with severe side effects and should be used with caution. As has been mentioned many times in this group, many RLS patients react adversely to amitriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant, with aggravation of their RLS. It is not my wish to interfere with your mother's care, but I am not impressed with her physician's choice of medications. Please forgive the intrusion.
