Guest guest
I decided to try sleeping without Benedryl last night, just to see what my natural sleep pattern would be. Well, I fell asleep okay and woke up at about 1:00 am, which is about when the benedryl wears off anyway. So I think I'll stop taking it. It's good during allergy season, but we've had a good hard frost so the pollen is dead. I guess it doesn't help with sleep beyond controlling my allergies. Now that the weather is getting cold, I use my " Restwarmer " mattress pad. The heat effectively eliminates the RLS sensations for me, which is great except it's harder to get out of bed in the morning when I know the cool air will cause my muscles to seize up again. I did take my Sinemet, I don't want to go off it just yet. I think I'll take a drug holiday over Thanksgiving and maybe it will work again. Or maybe I'll just stick with the Restwarmer for the winter months and take an extended drug holiday. If I only use Sinemet in the summer, maybe I can use it longer without augmentation. So I was laying there awake for most of the wee hours, feeling okay because of the Restwarmer but still wide awake. I was not anxious or stressed, actually I was happy about my legs feeling good. Eventually I got up and surfed the net for awhile while drinking Sleepytime tea and some hot cocoa. I finally went back to bed around 3:30 and went back to sleep. I feel a bit tired but not too bad. I did think about why I was still awake even if I didn't have RLS. I'm wondering if I have a form of insomnia that is not related to RLS, and I've just been blaming it on RLS because it seemed logical. Has anyone else experienced this, insomnia that is not caused by a drug side effect or RLS?
Guest guest
Kate, My family has had insominia for all my life and as far most of my parents life too. I don't know if it is inherited or it is some kind imbalance in out systems. This, ofcourse, started before I started taking anything for the rls and both my parents who didn't know they had it did't take anything for it (except my dad fixed it with booze). I think it must run both ways, you can have insominia or you can get it from the meds you take to control the rls. Just can't win can we??? Guest guest
Yo, It is common for people experiencing insomnia for one problem , like RLS/PLMS, to start to get insomnia psychologically, even if RLS/PLMS is not present that evening. Guest guest
Hi Pamela, I don't know if coco has something like cafeine in it, don't think so, in England you drink coco before you go to sleep. When I was up in the night with rls, I used to drink coco, and it seemd to help, I calmed down after that a lot of times. Since I am on a diet I stopped the coco and I missed it. Now and then I make myself " diet coco " , a spoon cocopowder, 2 spoons nutra sweet and hot water. No sugar, no milk, and it smooths everything down.I get warm and full and sleepy. Coffee I don't drink after 11 am, because of the cafeine. I think coco is fine, just my two choclate cents, Marleen Pamela E Hamiltonstubbs wrote: > > > Chocolate and I believe coco has a compound in it that is structurally > similar to caffeine. Guest guest
Chocolate and I believe coco has a compound in it that is structurally similar to caffeine. Does hot chocolate or coco make your RLS worse? Any body? Pamela > > > I decided to try sleeping without Benedryl last night, just to see what my > natural sleep pattern would be. Guest guest
No, caffiene doesn't affect my rls either way. >Chocolate and I believe coco has a compound in it that is structurally >similar to caffeine. Guest guest
In a message dated 98-11-28 15:16:02 EST, you write: << Does hot chocolate or coco make your RLS worse? >> Well, I think this is another YMMV situation. I have found that certain types of chocolate foods aggrevate my RLS but others do not effect it! For example, Hershey's chocolate syrup has no effect; whereas, a chocolate candy bar or ice cream seems to aggrevate it. Go figure, eh? Hence, if it is after 4pm and I need a chocolate fix, I grab the syrup. RAINBOWPED@...
Guest guest
Sometimes rls just doesn't make any sense. Before Thanksgiving, some people were posting about overeating making rls worse. So I paid attention over the holiday. I was eating constantly and drinking more alchohol in 2 days than I ususally have in 6 months. I slept like a baby all weekend, with mild rls controlled by Tension Tamer and Sinemet. Go figure! Well, since I've had plenty of sleep I have energy to get some housework done. Want everything spic-n-span for Christmas you know. Ta ta ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
