RLS is a strong, insistent NEED to move your legs that usually comes on in the

evening or at night when you lie down to go to sleep, or when you have to sit

still for a long time. The actual descriptions vary between different people,

from mild creepy crawly sensations to downright spasms and pain. There are

people who have this in the arms and other parts of the body. Some people

have it during the daytime also.

PLMD is a very strong kicking movement that usually occurs while you are

actually sleeping at night, quite often changing your threshold of sleep, but

not actually waking you up completely. Many people have this and do not know

it. If someone else is in the bed also, they are usually aware of these

movements. Many people with RLS also have PLMD..........that is, if their RLS

allows them to get to sleep to have the PLMD.

There are sites on line where you can print out this information for your

doctor to read. If you can't find these sites, get back to me and I will send

them to you.

Dr. Levin will be able to give you a better answer to this question and also

address whether or not Sinemet would be the ONLY medication that you could

take for PLMD...........which for some reason, I strongly doubt.

Sleep studies can diagnose PLMD; whereas, they cannot diagnose RLS.
