Guest guest
Hello group. Hope no-one actually exploded through over-eating. Before I batter Mum's doctor into considering Mirapex, it would be wiser to know of any 'bad news' stories. I have to provide balanced information or he wont have any faith in me or the group's objectivity. Thanks folks. Colin in England.
Guest guest
Colin Various side effects of Mirapex have been reported. They include fatigue, somnolence, insomnia and joint stiffness. My personal experience with Mirapex has been insomnia. This is relieved with a low dose of Percocet at bedtime. Other opiates might give similar results. In an elderly person, I would not suggest using a benzodiazepine as a counter-measure for insomnia because of unpredictable central nervous system effects. Recommended starting dosage of Mirapex is 0.125 mg three times a day. If no response, this may be doubled, but I would not recommend any increases past that. I feel that Mirapex is associated with significantly less adverse reactions than pergolide. Dr. Levin
Guest guest
Hi Colin; My Mom has been on mirapex for 3 months now, for the most part, it works really good. She does have spells that it doesn't seem to be working, usually just a day maybe two. She has a very severe case of RLS and would go into full body rocking. So it's worked wonders for her in that she doesn't do that anywhere near as often as she did. I did notice her legs bothering her last night after dinner and have to wonder if it was because she insisted on cooking the whole T/day dinner herself. (My Mom by the way is 84). That is the only bad thing I can say is some days it doesn't work as well. Hope your Mom feels better soon.
