RLS & some Dr's. Barb and Group

Barb; I definitely know how you feel. I just came back from seeing my

Dr. this afternoon. I used to really like him and he has been my primary

care doc for a long time, but he just can't deal with RLS/PLMD or

depression. He insists that xanax is the " best " drug for RLS (his words,

not mine!) He added zoloft and told me to play with when I should take

it. He did want me to cut back on the xanax, which I agree. But he

wouldn't discuss any new antidepressants (I asked to be put on Celexa),

he looked at me dumbfounded when my husband and I talked about PLMD. He

said I have two strikes against me, my legs and my depression (tell me

something I don't know!!!) but had no other remedies to offer, didn't

want to talk about any other types of meds. The only thing I got out of

the 5 minutes I saw him was a bill for 55.00 and a month's supply of

zoloft! When my husband and I left we both decided it would be in my

best interest to find another Dr. Mine just acted like he wanted to be

somewhere else and not there. He told me kids don't get RLS/PLMD(tell

that to my daughter!) , but maybe I should have my 10 yr old checked out

for something else through a childrens Dr.

But, I'm not going to quit yet, I will start the zoloft while I am

searching for a more understanding, caring, open-minded Dr. That may

take awhile unless Dr. Levin wants to move to California???!!! (Just

kidding, Doc!)

Anyway, I share your frustration at Dr.'s we just need to keep looking

until we find one that is willing to work with us.

Thinking of you and sharing your frustration.

i've been taking neurontin for almost 4 months primarily because my

neurologist said it was considered (so far) a rather benign drug with few

noted side effects........i knew it's used for treatment of epilepsy but am

not aware that its considered a parkinsons drug.

Jim and Group;

There was a short news article on our local news about Neurotin, Dr.'s

are using it to treat parkinsons's and other similar type problems. The

newscaster indicated that the Dr.'s are very hopeful as Neurotin has no

side effects, and does have the antidepressant type quality. Just

thought I would pass this on to the group, it's nice to know one of the

drugs we are taking is getting some good reports...

I'm glad your Dr.'s are talking that's important for your well being. I

have found a new one that so far I like, he admits not know much about

it, but is going to research it and I found out he is going to contact

the Mayo clinic also to find out more.

Good luck.
